Memphis Grizzlies: The Movie

Starring in the film is international superstar Will Smith as Rudy Gay. "Memphis Grizzlies: The Movie" is going to make a billion dollars.
Academy Award-winner Javier Bardem plays Big Spain, Marc Gasol. "Memphis Grizzlies: The Movie" will win multiple Oscars. (More on that later.)
Djimon Hounsou (Blood Diamond, Amistad) brings Zach Randolph (Z-Bo) to life on the big screen.
Rounding out the core four, Mike Conley takes the point as imagined by Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor D.B. Woodside. Note: On the air, I pegged Jamie Foxx for the part, but I think Foxx is too flashy and big a name for the subtle elegance required to get Conley right.
As agent of chaos/defender supreme Tony Allen, brilliant character actor Chiwetel Ejiofor secures his first Oscar nomination (Supporting Actor).
Actor/musician Mos Def disappears into the role as power reserve Darrell Arthur.
The cast member that launched the project. Tony Wroten-lookalike Don Cheadle takes the role he was born to play.
Treme's Rob Brown finds in Quincy Pondexter (QPon) a role big enough for his talent. Note: On air I named Sean Patrick Thomas to play this part, but, dude, Rob Brown rules.
Backup point guard Jerryd Bayless steps into the spotlight under the thesp guidance of Laz Alonso (Fast & Furious).
Grizz newcomer Jon Leuer is played by character actor James Ransone (The Wire, Generation Kill).
Some might call it stunt casting but is there any doubt Sacha Baron Cohen would dominate as fan-favorite Hamed Haddadi?
Leading this ragtag group of grit-n-grinders is Coach Lionel Hollins, played to the hilt by great actor Laurence Fishburne, also nominated for a supporting actor in part due to his bravura dedication to the role: Fishburne dislocated a couple fingers in a fit of method madness.
The film doesn't just get at the players and coaches but also the ownership and front office. Funnyman Jim Parsons gets serious as hundred-millionaire owner Robert Pera. Note: This cast member was totally the idea of my new BFF Adam Ryan, whose phone call prompted this whole endeavor.)
Is that Grizzlies CEO/Managing Partner Jason Levien or acting star Casey Affleck? It's both!
Breaking Bad actor Dean Norris has the chops and head to pull off agent-turned-exec Stu Lash.
Basketball brain John Hollinger went from ESPN stat-cruncher to Grizzlies Veep. In a critically acclaimed performance by comedian David Cross, Hollinger goes back to the sports network, finally winning that long-coveted ESPY.
Rounding out the SAG Ensemble-winning cast is the "World's Greatest Actor," Daniel Day-Lewis. Who else could play beloved front-office maven Chris Wallace? "I drink your milkshake," Wallace tells Rockets GM Daryl Morey in the film's climactic scene.
As agent of chaos/defender supreme Tony Allen, brilliant character actor Chiwetel Ejiofor secures his first Oscar nomination (Supporting Actor).
