Re: “Luttrell Says He Won't Sign On to Commission Plans for New School Board.

If it's truly veto proof, as Chism and Ritz say, then Luttrell is protecting his voting base and shows that he definitely plans to run for re-election. He needs those county votes and is catering to the suburbanites. Of course, he is weakening his City support as well.

Re: “BULLETIN: Lt. Gov. Ramsey Threatens State Takeover of MCS

Packrat, I hope it would pass. We would be better off not being part of Tennessee.

Re: “Et Tu, Al? Sharpton Comes to Memphis and Adds His Thrust Against Consolidation

I am a supporter of the consolidation proposal and have already voted for it. Besides that, I agree with Thomas that MT has been totally incompetent in communicating it's message and politically naive in gaining support. I think they came out with a decent document, I agree with most of it but not all.

Thomas gives too much credence to the SCDP. They have long been minor players in Memphis politics. The present committee has an incompetent leader (Van Turner) and officers who are racist and/or on massive ego trips. As packrat points out, they got their clocks cleaned by the Republicans in August despite a large voter edge. More importantly, MT failed to sell the true powers, such as key ministers and current office holders, on the plan.

Re: “Halbert Eyes Consolidation Warily, Cites Desegregation as Precedent

So Zebra, are you saying that conservative social engineering HAS worked? Things like giving tax breaks to rich people, letting the Financial industry have its way , letting people bring guns to parks and bars, letting coal companies put more polltants in rivers and streams?

So if consolidation is liberal social experimentation, why are all of these conservative businessmen supporting it? If it's so ineffective, then why are all other cities that have adopted it prospering?

Re: “Sara Lewis Cries "Foul" Over Democrats' Endorsement of Davis

The SCDP has allowed it's own good ole boy system to promote incompetents to its leadership. That, coupled with a well meaning but ineffective Chair has made the official Party irrelevant in local politics.

Re: “Fincher Didn't Know Memphis was in 8th District, Herron Tells Crowd

If Fincher doesn't know that this large of an area is in his District, he is not qualified to represent the 8th district in Congress. I know that this is a Republican year but voters need to go against that trend in this race. There is no doubt that Roy Herron is by far the best candidate.

Re: “Stephens to Leave Election Commission, Work for Consolidation

When we need innovative thinking on the Election commission, people with an understanding and a commitment to a better technology but with verifiable results to make sure that our vote counts, what do we get? An old time bureacratic party hack. The Republican delegation should be ashamed of themselves.
