Re: “Former Love In Action Leader Marries His Same-Sex Partner

1) I am a gay Christian, very comfortable with my faith and my sexuality, and I hope some day to find the man with whom I will enter into the sacrament of marriage.

2) The definitions of words change all the time; that is part of the natural evolution of language. So, if "marriage" is taking on a new meaning and paradigm, that is a natural progression.

3) As libsechumanist pointed out above, the "biblical" concept of marriage is far different from what we think in modern terms--even between a man and a woman. Women were practically property "traded" from a father to a husband with the primary purpose of producing a male heir to inherit property. Anything in the Old Testament reflects things pertinent to Hebrew culture living in the centuries before the birth of Christ; anything in the New Testament reflects the necessities of early Christian communities living under the rule of the Roman Empire. Both are far different from 21st Century first-world society and worldview. The challenge for us modern-day Christians is to discover how Holy Scripture informs us in how we can live in the present age, loving God first and our neighbor as ourselves, seeing Christ in everyone, and respecting the dignity of every human being.
