Re: “Man Arrested for Recording Police Interaction at Mall

ALJ2, your link is a Fox News faux-journalism article completely unrelated to this story,. Your all too transparent motive for including it is to perpetrate whataboutism to claim reverse racism, a contradiction in terms.
Not buying it.

Re: “Author of Heritage Protection Act Cautions City About 'Consequences'

Was Forrest a brilliant military strategist? Yes. Did he help to improve African-Americans' lives after the war? Perhaps. But it all pales in comparison to the fact that he was a slave trader and a TRAITOR to his frigging country! How difficult is this to understand?

Also, as a representative of, and former mayor of 80% white Parker's Crossroads, he has directly profited off the town's Civil War tourism while insulating himself from the people that Forrest and other Confederates oppressed.

Re: “Is Meddlesome's 201 Hoplar in Bad Taste?

There's really nothing offensive about the name. Would you be offended by a "Jailhouse Bock"?

Re: “Zoo-Tied Donors Gave to Hedgepeth Campaign

The founders of Memphis intended Overton Park to be her crowning glory, a large space for the use of all her citizenry. It is the gift of the park that allowed the Memphis Zoo to be created in the first place, and little by little the zoo has bitten off chunks of the park to satiate its hunger for land and money. This has to stop. The good of Overton Park, which benefits ALL Memphians, must always take precedence over the interests of the zoo, which only benefits those who pay its exorbitant prices that fuel yet more land-grabbing.

Re: “Tennessee Legislators Act to Disqualify Cruz for Presidency

Packrat: I completely agree with you about how ironic and highly amusing the current controversy over Cruz's eligibility is. As you say, unlike with Obama, there's actually a legitimate question on the table concerning Cruz. However, my point is that the state of Tennessee still doesn't have the jurisdiction to enact a different set of rules or a different interpretation of "natural born citizen" than the federal government (subject to SCOTUS) decides to use.

Re: “Bartlett’s Coley was Lone Vote for Anti-Gay Marriage Bill

Exactly how did the Supreme Court's decision "strike down an institution that had existed for thousands of years"? Last time I checked, male-female couples are still allowed to obtain civil and religious marriages.

Re: “Tennessee Legislators Act to Disqualify Cruz for Presidency

This bill is absolutely meaningless. Article II, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution already says this:

"No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."

In the event that somehow the bill's language disagreed with the U.S. Constitution, the latter's Supremacy Clause would render Tennessee's would-be additional requirement null and void.
