Re: “"Dog Beds" at New Shelter Already Showing Signs of Wear

It's a new building, built on government contract, it has things wrong with it and the manufacturer is going to replace the kennel decks. Why is this news?
Why didn't you just put in your quote from Thistlethwaite, your two links to her blog and leave it at that?

Re: “The Help: Schools Have Lots of It These Days

I think it might be worth the money spent if we could just convince the consultants to consult for each other and leave the schools alone. I tend to wonder how many of these consultants even have a nodding acquaintance with a child.

Re: “Rotary Club Study Points to Big Problems at Animal Shelter

I'm sorry, but this article reads as if Ms. Phillips was told to pick a few paragraphs at random from the report and just shove them into an article. She usually does a much better job than this.

@ryan Kellum -you should comment on the Commercial Appeal. You would fit right in.

@Doubting Thomas - I agree, but I think we'll find it's the usual 'low bid' and no oversight contract governments are so fond of.

@bryan mauldin- Mayor Wharton is looking for someone whose sole responsibility is MAS. I believe that would be the shelter administrator. We've already lost a good one. There will be a report on the actual operation of MAS coming from the HSUS. That should explain a lot. The Rotary report has gone to the DA already. I hope you're not suggesting a complete audit of every animal on a daily basis. And thank you for saying 'alleged '. I might disagree with a lot of what you've said, but I admire the fact that you do think before you speak.

I'm sorry if I sound a bit more sarcastic than usual, but I've spent the day reading comments on the CA.

Re: “Respiratory Disease Outbreak at Memphis Animal Services

@s.s.medina They don't arbitrarily kill coughing dogs. I have seen them post for fosters many times for dogs with uri. And the community has always responded. I hope this does turn out to be kennel cough.

And for those of you who think this is the much rumored "mass kill" before the move, Canyon Moon is right. It's a long time (and a lot more strays and owner surrenders) before the move.

Here's hoping for the best for MAS.

Re: “The Rant

@1 voice- you and I agree on a lot of things. There is so much that needs to be changed, not just at MAS, but at shelters all over the country. What I have seen in the past few months makes me sick- and then I realize that people are often treated the same way. I am glad though that there is discussion (and arguing) and activism for both animals and humans.

I am hearing of quite a few good changes at the shelter. Will they continue? Will the Mayor take us in a good direction? Who knows? I don't care much for privatization, there is much less transparency and I don't know a local group that could do it. Perhaps a partnership? Whatever happens, I hope that things become better for both the animals and citizens of Memphis. I can say though, that I am glad people like you care what happens, tho we disagree.

Re: “The Rant

@sputnik57 I think if you talked to some of the employees who work there now, you would find they are not nearly as enthusiastic about euthanizing large numbers of animals as you think. They are mostly good people, doing a hard job.

Disclaimer: do not work in shelter, am not a Friend, am not paid to do this, am not a complete idiot, do have a soul, do know how to scoop poop
