Re: “What Strickland Will Do

I'll just throw it out there--in 2008, Obama was the first democratic candidate since LBJ in 1964 to get a majority of the white vote.

Sounds like the Tennessee Brewery would be perfect.

Re: “The Rant

Hey CHC--the constitution provides that the census shall be conducted in the manner established by Congress.

Next point--if you think the census questions are intrusive--go back 150 or so years ago to the "good old days" and you will really see what intrusion was--questions about race existed then, questions about income existed then, but beyond that, the government wanted to know where you worked, how many heads of livestock you owned, etc., etc.

You have the right to find whatever questions you want to be intrusive, but a little more historical reality would make your case less easily to dismiss out of hand.

Re: “Letter From the Editor

Hey, I far prefer the city to the suburbs any day. But I don't think city dwellers ought to try to outdo suburbanites in their disdain for the "other". Fact is, most of the Memphis area population in fact lives in areas such as Cordova.

As the article says:

"The other is sustainability — ensuring that existing neighborhoods have anchors and amenities and schools that provide livability and reasons to stay."

Cordova is every bit as much of an "existing neighborhood" as Midtown is. And if Cordova goes downhill, it is hardly helpful for city dwellers to chuckle and say "I told you so". Anymore than it is helpful for suburbanites to say the same about decaying urban neighborhoods.

Re: “Shelby GOP Chair Calls on Stanley to Resign (UPDATE: Stanley Bows Out!)

Ah, let him run and let the voters decide.

Contrary to what Wiseman pitches--that the lingering controversy will hurt repubs unless Stanley resigns--I say that he's most likely representing the dozens of repubs who thirst for Stanley's seat.

Re: “Worst In Its Class

If your contract doesn't specify that you are limited to arbitration, then you are entitled to file a suit against Regions and/or your seller.

You do not have to file a class-action, but may proceed on your own. You should discuss the merits of this with your attorney. A caveat: your attorney may want to do a class action rather than an individual suit because of higher fees.

Then again, he may well have some valid reasons other than fees for doing it. Talk to him/her.
