Re: “"Follow That Dream"

thanks for the comment, Mike. Just wanted to make clear that the line about Sherman seeing more Elvis fans than anyone outside G'land is mine, and not a boast of Sherman's. I appreciate your take on the state of the Blvd. Hopefully we'll all be seeing more EP fans once the "Oh Wow" plan is complete.

Re: “Church of God in Changeover

saywhat? I appreciate you sharing your insights here in a rational manner. Your take on this, as a member of West Angeles, is very valuable. For those who are trashing Talbott's legitimacy as a source, I remind you that he was a member long before he was an employee, he wasn't fired, but quit, and went on the record instead of trying to plant something anonymously. His insights would have been less valuable had he no spiritual stake in his relationship to the church, had he been fired (and therefore had an axe to grind), or had he refused to put his name next to his claim. He lost his job and his religion over what he viewed as an ethical dilemma. That's serious stuff.

Re: “Tough Week for Millionaire Preachers

southrngrl, which interview did I lie my way into? There's a total absence of facts from the folks who are angry about this article. I don't really see what the big deal is. It's an article about the history, power, and wealth of the Church of God in Christ. Blake's salary is only a problem if you think it's one. We merely reported it.

Re: “Tough Week for Millionaire Preachers

Eric Slack, Bishop Blake's assistant chief operating officer is quoted at the end of the end of the story in response to my questions about Blake's salary and his financial responsibility to poor members of his congregation. My offer to print Bishop Blake's response is still on the table. I'm still waiting to hear what isn't true in the story.

Re: “Tough Week for Millionaire Preachers

Deidre, Is it OK if I write a story on the new MLGW president for next week's Flyer? Because apparently I need to check with you now before publishing something. Blake's assistant commented on Talbott's allegations. The salary is a documented fact, we don't need to run that by anyone else, or ask for a comment on ethical grounds. Who's a PR firm to tell anyone about journalistic ethics anyhow? Do you go to the dentist for an oil change? Or ask the local fox to protect your hens? Talbott's not the only former COGIC member who is concerned about a few rich pastors living fabulous lives off the sweat of their poor members. This is a hot debate among church members right now. You're not paid to protect the poor church members though, are you?

Re: “From the Back of the Bus

Bredesen signed the bill into law yesterday. No word yet on whether the governor opened the penitentiary as Charles Cabbage suggested in an interview for this story.
