Re: “Author of Heritage Protection Act Cautions City About 'Consequences'

There is more to the American Southern Confederacy than just "slavery". Many have been deceived into believing that Slavery was the Main and Only issue for the war Between the States......If it was then all that the South had to do was to Remain in the Union as Slavery Was Protected By Constitutional Law of the United States. We don't like it today and don't agree to it but Slavery was part of the American Culture during that Era of time. We should not judge a society of almost 200 years ago by today's standards-------things were different back then. Most All of the Northern states had allowed slavery at one time. Slavery was legal before the American Colonies became the United States..By legal process and vote the Northern states began to end the institution of slavery in their states, BUT it was still Legal under the US Constitution. Do people not find it strange that if the Union army was fighting to end slavery why were the Border States of Maryland, Kentucky, Delaware, and Missouri permitted to keep their slaves during the war? And why was West Virginia permitted to enter the Union during the war as a slave state? Slavery did not officially end until some 8 months after the war ended because under US law the Congress has to vote to have a law changed -------this is legal process of our system of government. Slavery was becoming less popular and no doubt the South would have ended it (by legal process and vote and legal legislation) like the North had done and without threat from Radical abolitionists and coercion from government. While slavery was an issue other factors should be considered why the Southern states left the Union ...states rights, Constitutional law and one big reason was the heavy tariff that the government had levied on the Southern States that was greatly benefiting the Northern states. our Southern forefathers have been branded as Racists and traitors and this is plain Lies and Slander--------they were Americans-Southern Patriots who were defending their homes and families from the Onslaught of destruction, death and mayhem brought on by the invading Union forces.. Our Courageous southern men and women, White, Black. Hispanic, American Indian including some Asians Deserve to be remembered for their Heroic acts during this great conflict when Americans were fighting Americans for the conviction of Defending the Southland.....

Re: “Mayor: Memphis Situation Different from New Orleans on Confederate Statues

The Onslaught against the American South is Un-American. Never in the history of the United States have we allowed Historical American Monuments and Statues to be torn down or be destroyed until now. Civilized Societies do not try to suppress or eliminate their unique history---------they learn from it.
