Re: “VIDEO: Sessions Promises Tough on Crime Approach, Draws Protestors

Sessions disregards the reality of the last 50 years in clinging to law enforcement ideas that have long been discredited. Apparently, his 'friends' who own corporate prisons aren't getting enough inmates and need him to increase the number of convicts in the system, hence he will 'get tough' on low level criminals and victim-less crimes, while the real criminals in the White House and Congress, like Sessions, continue to serve their corporate and foreign masters and destroy our government with impunity.

Re: “Beyond the Arc Podcast #80: Should the Grizzlies Trade Marc Gasol?

I agree that it is time for some fairly drastic steps to revitalize this team. In addition to making some of trades mentioned, and not spending money we don't have on aging veterans, the Grizz should release the poorest performer in recent years, too. That has been Chris Wallace. Pera needs to find a better custodian of his money than someone who throws huge money at cripples. He has been a poor communicator, a worse judge of talent, and an apparently weak negotiator who seems to throw out his top number first.

Re: “Memphis Colleges Mostly Silent On Privatization Contract

In addition to being an apparent conflict of interest, this is another part of the right's misguided attempts to force every 'inefficient and corrupt' government service into the private sector so businesses can reap the financial benefit with even greater corruption and inefficiency. Private prisons, charter schools, cleaning and janitorial services, and now, grounds and facility maintenance. Anyone who has been in the service lately knows that the private sector like Halliburton or Blackrock is all over any military installation. This is not efficient, cheaper, results oriented, or a good idea for anybody other than the contractors involved and the legislators they pay off to get these contracts in the first place.

Re: “Mark Green Out as Choice for Army Head

This administration is not only a danger to the average US citizen, but also its own worst enemy. At this rate, they will never get any of the agencies staffed with their regressive, incompetent, and often puzzling picks, thankfully.…

Re: “It’s Memphis’ Water!

DatGuy- The board did what the law required them to do in this case, not what they felt was necessarily the right thing to do. I think it had been reported some time back that they wanted to deny the permits, but just did not have any legal reason to do so. That's why they are working with the Sierra Club to come up with a better, more transparent process.

A number of utilities around the US are similarly replacing their coal plants with gas. Another less local problem that this all leads to is that energy companies will try to use this increased demand for gas as an excuse to push more and more fracking on the public, pretending that's the only way they can meet demand. Republican congressmen will certainly accept this as factual from 'respected industry officials' and allow them to use hydraulic fracturing wherever they want and poison the groundwater with solvents and VOCs, all proven cancer causers to boot.

Re: “Hawks 104, Grizzlies 83: Preseason Notebook

Nice haiku, Kevin. Oh, and I liked the Lou Reed references!!
I'm still expecting (hoping?) to see Mario Chalmers ASAP.
