Re: “Love in Court

I was a client at LIA from 11/99 to 11/2001 when the program was a residential program with a minimal stay of 10 months & a maximum stay that was indeterminant & based on the assessment of the staff of the lrvrl of healing & maturiy exemplified by the client. I experienced a atmosphere that was loving, supportive, powerful, yet firm while avoiding any overt or covert examples of religious legalism. Yes, LIA is a faith-based, ministrerial, para-church organization, but I chose the program for just that reason. I went in the program as a mature adult fully aware of the rules, regulations & expectations of the program....I needed the structure that the program provided. I have a strong, experienced & professional - level medical background of which the staff of the program was fully aware & during my stay I viewed no impropriety. LIA did not encourage medical management of any client's mental health issue which incidentally & unfortunately is a prevalent problem among gender-identity strugglers who have not found guidance or help in conventional medical or religious therapy sources. Rather, LIA regulated medication already prescribed to clients to avoid any attempts to use the medication inappropriately. Specifically, they only made sure that clients took prescribed medication at appropriate times & dosages. Meanwhile, they encouraged clients to be honest with themselves & others for the first time. Invariably, this honesty seemed to free the clients from their dependance on medication & allowed the clients instead to form an appropriate dependance om God to manage their desires & temptations. Dis LIA provide me with a cure ? No, it didn't, but what LIA did provide was control as the program allowed me to form a reliance on the power of the Holy Spirit to keep my desires in check. Today, by choice, I live a celibate & chaste life dedicationg myself to walking in communion with my Father & Savior. I am satisfied & blessed by my therapeutic result.
