Re: ““Socialized Medicine”?

Right on CHG! I'd much rather rely on all those Internet forwards about some guy whose wife, Shirley, has a brother-in-law who once worked with someone whose aunt lived next door to a guy whose sister was best friends with a women who died of cancer, or maybe some other disease, while waiting for treatment in Canada because their health care is run by the "gubmint." How come you guys on the Right put your faith in anecdotal, perhaps even apocryphal tales of health care horrors while anything from the Left is suspect, even when there is an actual author's name on the essay? The forwarded Internet blather I get from my pals on the Right, not to mention their oral rants, have never provided to me one single verifiable fact, including the name of the author and any other information that might lend credence to their claims. And just last night I discoverd that an acquaintance who considers himself extremely well-informed on the issue of universal health care (and who can't scream loud enough about the kind of carnage that would result in a "government takeover" of the U.S. system), bases his entire perspective on a nine-month stint in human resources, twenty years ago, at a Canadian company with only 170 employees. His evidence that "socialized medicine" is bad? One complaint per month on average from an employee or employees (who may have been the same person for all we know, along with the case that none of the actual facts in the complaints could be recited). And you're looking for "universal truth?" Repeat after me: MEDICARE IS SOCIALIZED MEDICINE! MEDICARE IS SINGLE PAYER! EVERYONE LOVES MEDICARE AND CAN'T WAIT TO GET ON IT! Repeat this until reality sets in. If that is possible.
