Re: “Memphis Redbirds 2011: First Impressions

With all the talk about ballpark renovations, why does the "jumbotron" (for lack of a better descriptor) still look horrible?

Re: “Chow 2010

I spend a lot of time in Jonesboro and clearly haven't explored the ethnic places like you describe. Can you provide some names? I really need some diversity in my lunches over here.

Re: “Spirited

Great. Thanks for the info, @mhughes. Love Joes.

Last place that I felt really cared about a cocktail was Encore. I forget the bartender's name, but she went to lengths I've not seen at any of the places you list above with housemade, artisinal ingredients. Cove drinks are great, if small. I want a place I can sit at the bar and learn something. The Patterson House in Nashville is over the top, but man do I love their cocktails.

Re: “Spirited

Can you list where they are available in Memphis? Can you also point us to, as you state, where "House-made cordials, infusions, and spins on classics are popping up all over our city"?

Re: “Bright Ideas for Memphis: College Radio

JC not even close. I'm Kevin Kane. Or Bad Dog McCormack. I cant remember right now. I would like to have her babies though. Rachel does a good enough job of pimping herself online. She doesn't need my help.

Re: “Bright Ideas for Memphis: College Radio

Addendum: the playlist @ rhodesradio.org is terrible. Classic rock? seriously?

Re: “Bright Ideas for Memphis: College Radio

A good "college radio" station is one piece of a strong, vibrant arts community. I agree with Rachel that a university-supported station would be a great addition to the Memphis music environment. Rachel is offering a Bright Idea that relates to what she does. We should all do the same, though I'm scared of that many of your ideas aren't so "bright". I'm listening to Rhodesradio.org now. They really need to improve the sound and streaming technology (song names, etc would be nice). The site says they are working on it but it's been a while. I want Rhodes.edu to support it. I do NOT want it to take public donations that could take away from wevl.org--one of the best community radio stations in the country. You are spot-on, Rachel, and making a suggestion from your context as a music promoter makes a lot of sense.
