Skinny Bitch

It goes something like this: Dog whines and whines and whines some more. She is up on your lap and up in your face, and she is quivering with impatience. Given your lack of engagement, she has no choice — no choice! — but to bark bark bark. So there you have it, and there she has it: a treat and then another and another. Now, as a consequence, your dog is fat, don't you know it, and you better believe that your vet lets you know that it's all your fault.

The goal is to break this co-dependency cycle and to get your pet — your precious, wonderful pet — back into shape. A little help is in order, and it comes in the form of a Canine Weight Awareness event, being held this Saturday at Wags & Whiskers. Featured speakers include vet oncologist and acupuncturist Kathy Mitchener and organic dog-treat chef Bernadette Getzler, who will help participants learn about exercising their dogs and making healthy snacks. Owners are encouraged to bring their fat furry friends for a weight analysis at this free event.

So stop whining already and start taking steps to turn your bitch into a skinny bitch.

Canine Weight Awareness, Wags & Whiskers (5101 Sanderlin), Saturday, February 23rd, 2-5 p.m. The event is free, but participants are encouraged to make a donation to the Memphis & Shelby County Humane Society.
