Sticky Style

Throughout history, there have been style icons who've latched onto a look so that it becomes inseparable from their personality. Think legendary Vogue editor Diana Vreeland with her "Kabuki-fabulous" hair and makeup and nonstop bangles. In Memphis, we've got performer Muck Sticky with his pajama pants cut off just below the knee.

On Saturday, June 22nd, Muck Sticky is holding a party at the New Daisy to celebrate his 4,000th consecutive day of wearing pajama pants.

According to Sticky, the last day he wore "real" pants was July 1, 2002. He had been a pajama-pants enthusiast for some time due to their comfort, but did not exclusively don them until the day of best friend's funeral. His friend was a pajama-pants-wearer as well, and when Sticky's "real" pants split at the funeral, he took that as a sign.

A few things about Sticky and his pajama pants: He swears no allegiance to a particular brand of pajama pants, though he has a lot of Joe Boxer items. He rarely wears pajama tops and spiffs up his look on occasion by wearing a buttoned-down shirt. He started cutting off the pants at the calf to keep the bottom of the legs from dragging the ground. To sleep, he also wears pajama pants.

For Sticky, the pajama pants are part of his bigger philosophy of having fun and being comfortable.

"I dedicated myself to the lifestyle," he says.

Joining Sticky at the event are Taco & Da Mofos and Flameing Daeth Fearies. They're also making a video for "Pajama Pants."

"It's been 11 years now, and we're having a big party to celebrate," Sticky says. "We want everybody to wear pajamas to the show."

4,000 Days in Pajamas at the New Daisy Theatre, Saturday, June 22nd, 7 p.m., $10.
