There s live jazz tonight at Midtown Books Sip * Coffee * Conversations by JAC3, featuring Memphis artists Jonathan Wires and Art Edmaiston, along with Mississippi artist Chad Anderson. And there s a very special a tasty fund-raiser tonight at Automatic Slim s to pay honor to and benefit the family of Kelly Wilson, the restaurant s chef who was murdered last Memorial Day. It s called Commemoreat, and chefs from almost every notable restaurant in town are participating, including Jose Guiterrez, Ben Smith, Erling Jensen, Wally Jo, Robert Chapman, Michelle Leny, Felicia Willet, and many others, including, of course, Slim s own Karen Carrier. The food will be set up buffet-style with chefs at their stations; cash bar proceeds also benefit the Wilson family; Slim s is asking for a donation of $30 but will accept more and will not turn anyone away; and there ll be live music by Harlan T. Bobo, Free Sol, Kelly Hurt, and others. This is the kind of thing that makes me love Memphis so much. Don t miss it.
