Re: ““Judge Joe Brown” Uncorks a Shocker, Taunting Weirich About Her Sexuality

I'm a 65 year old African American male that grew up in Memphis. Anyone that knows Joe Brown knows that if you attack him, duck! They also know his justice is justice and not "just us" and the punishment fits the crime. They also should know Memphis politics so don't get caught up in the smoke. Mr. brown dispenses justice not politics. The power structure in Memphis; primarily white male and home grown black point men can't get comfortable around him. If you're a single mother, at or below the poverty line trying to rear sons you need Joe Brown; that is if you're interested in justice. In Memphis there is white justice and black justice. With Joe Brown, there's JUSTICE, PERIOD. WHO'S IN CHARGE NOW! THINK ABOUT IT.

Re: “A Decent Proposal?

I've heard about consolidation most of my life and what I learned is this; Memphis and shelby county is one body with two heads trying to deny the fact and live as though they are seperate. I contribitute this to the waring nature of the males running things. Instead of concentrating on the best for the people and the community they war against each other for dominance, with nothing in mind but promoting their own agenda and the people they can get to go along with them. The bottom line is not to foster good government but pimp the working class for the big bucks. I don't know what consolidation will bring to this community but I do know all I've heard about other cities that has done this is doing well and thriving; all of them. It is beyond me why anyone would b opposed to it if not for selfish reasons.

I do feel that if it is enacted it should be across the board. I don't get involved in on purpose with institutions divided among itself. How can we be a country together and divided in the community. All my high school years I studied from used out dated books from predominately white East High School. Did I get a quality Education? If I did why did I have to use old and outdated books and East High new. If I didn't could the old out dated books be the problem. Also, my children's computer learning was Through Texas Instruments; a specialized sytem, while the county utilized Commodore; a PC based program. Was it their problem they got paid less than county students because they know PC and had to climb over the learning curve thrown them by divided school systems. NO it was the so called leaders of the system and it was not just and need to be corrected and I feel it was deliberate. One system has the same rules and regulations and the playing field is leveled. Anyone that dosen't like it can move on.

Futhermore, I've been paying two property taxes since Ibought my home. That's twice what the county pays. That playing field needs to be leveled and should have been from the start. One does not have to have a PHD to do the math on that. I feelthe PRESS need to do a better job printing the pros and cons of consolidation, printing the facts of both govenments, side by side so tht the voters can see what they are voting for. The way I see it now is plan is to be finished in August and voted on in November and very few know what they are voting for or against. My so call political leaders and not all of them come off as a secretary telling the world she's i management.

Re: “A Decent Proposal: Save Shelby County

I've heard about consolidation most of my life and I still don't know what it means to me economically or how it can improve my quality of life. I've heard no specifics just retoric. I do know however that all through high school I studied from outdated textbooks from all white East High School. Did I get the same quality of education? If so what was the justification for me not having the same text books. If not, could the difference be in the fact I had outdated text books? I also know my children's computer education equipment was Texas Instrument; utilizing a specialized software program whereas the county used Commodore; a PC based software, which we still use today and the learning curve for the county students moving into the workforce was zero while my children had to learn PC, putting them behind the curve. Futhermore I know i've been paying two property taxes to the county's one; what's just about that? I feel its time for the press to put in print and put before the voting public where we are now; both governments side by side and the proposal of a consolidated government which is where we want to be and we all can see where the MONEY is going and that all residents are recieving a just return on their investments. The so called professional politicians; public servants actually, are spinning retoric among themselves and comming off to the public as a secretary telling the world she's in management. I feel if the politicians who call themselves our leaders had to live out of their paychecks and by the standards we have to like the rest of us a lot of things would change.
