Tap That

Back in the day, the farm hands of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais region of France took a load off with a refreshing cold glass of Bière de Garde, or "keeping beer," a traditional farmhouse-style ale brewed and stored in the winter to be consumed in the summer.

Just so happens that Bière de Garde sounds a little like "beer of the garden." Thus, this year's specialty brew for the Dixon Gallery & Gardens' 15th annual Art on Tap event — Bière de Garde(n) —was born.

This malty, toasty brew by Boscos Brewery may be the star of the show at the September 10th tasting, but beer enthusiasts may also sample more than 50 other imported lagers and domestic ales. Members of Bluff City Brewers & Connoisseurs will offer up samples of their homemade beer, and they'll be on hand to chat about each brew.

Boscos Squared will offer food pairings for Bière de Garde(n), and the L'École Culinaire is teaming up with Ghost River Brewery to pair food with locally brewed beer.

Other restaurants offering grub at the event include Bardog, Jim & Nick's BBQ, McAlister's Deli, and Papa Pia's. Mean Green Music Machine will perform cover songs throughout the night, and the gallery and gardens will be open for perusal.

Art on Tap, Friday, September 10th, 6-9 p.m. at the Dixon Gallery & Gardens. $40 Dixon members/$50 nonmembers.
