Re: “"At Least One Republican Knows What He's Talking About"

Actually, having seen Kasich's capable (almost professorial) town hall this evening at the Holiday Inn University from the fifth row, I can report that he's way fitter than he looks on television, and is in fact quite tall. Not NBA tall, but maybe 6-2?

If he ever were in the center of the stage going mano y mano against Trump, he'd really make the Donald look small and annoying. And if a moderator ever let him use his clearly exceptional debating powers, in an actual debate, Kasich would squash Trump like a bug.

Re: “Tigers 24, USF 17

Remarkable evening. Those who bet on the over had their hats handed to them on a plate. Love to see the bookies getting shortchanged!

Re: “Oklahoma State 73, Tigers 55

I agree with Robert. Sadly, we (the basketball program) squandered some golden years when Coach J had excellent talent but came up short when it came to in game-coaching. Now the proverbial sh*t has hit the fan, as potential gold-star recruits know all about the bad-game-coach situation here before they commit to U of M. It's not exactly a secret, after all.

Yes, U of M basketball has a great tradition, but it also has had the equivalent of Larry Porter minding the store the past five-six years. Josh is a wonderful human being, but he still hasn't a clue how to run a basketball team in a game situation. We saw what having an indecisive, insecure and incompetent in-game coach did to U of M football (Is there any team in football D1 with as bad a record as U of M 2010-11 with as many players (Dantari Poe, Marcus Ball, etc.) in the NFL?); we are about to see the basketball program crash and burn, Porter-style, big-time.

The good news for Fuente is the fact that Tiger football has no real head-to-head competition here in town. Lots nearby, of course, but none actually here, which leads to hope. The bad news for Pastner is that Tiger basketball has an NBA team sucking oxygen out of the room. The better the Griz get, the more impossible the rebuilding task becomes for the next U of M basketball coach.

I must say (modestly) i saw this coming with the rudderless ship that Josh's team(s) over the years became, but i must admit, I never imagined the football Tigers would ever have had such a resurrection. Justin Fuente is a remarkable football coach, and yes, we only have him for another year or two, but hey, Kentucky and (especially) Texas A&M enjoyed the Bear and then went on (the latter) to bigger and better things. I do think Justin is going to ride Paxton all the way to the 2016 Heisman, and then leave, but we are in for an exciting ride til then!

U of M basketball, on the other hand? Gulp. There's just no there there at the moment. When your biggest claim to fame is the fact that a top-notch player who transferred out of your program (Tarick Black) and went off to Kansas now STARTS for the Houston Rockets, you are the living embodiement of a chump.

The sad part is that the inevitable disengagement from Josh is going to take a few years, and by then -- if the Griz continue on their current path -- the U of M basketball program will be in tatters, whatever they do. Too small a town for two Championship basketball teams.

Re: “Henri Brooks' Donnybrook: Has the Outspoken County Commissioner Crossed the Line?

Jackass is too mild a word. Henri Brooks is Memphis' answer to Donald Sterling, and she should be shunned as a pariah, just as he (finally) is...
