The Blotter

True stories from the local police files.

Pretty fishy: Police responded to the 2000 block of Lauderdale June 5th after a man digging for worms was approached by a woman. The woman "offered him some worms that she had at her house, then she hugged him. Shortly thereafter the victim noticed that $1,100 he had in his left front pocket was gone." Officers did not find the money on the suspect, but she told them she had just been released from jail the night before, she had been arrested for prostitution in the past, and it was not the first time that she has been accused of pocket-picking.

Remember, erase completely: An officer was on patrol on Third near Madison when she observed a vehicle with obviously altered drive-out tags in the rear window. She stopped the driver and since he could not provide a driver's license or a proof of purchase for the Chevy Blazer, she detained him. "Upon pat down for officer's safety before placing the defendant in the back seat of the squad car the officer felt a bony hard object in the defendant's front right pants pocket." Of course, it was a crack pipe and after a more thorough search, the officer found the matching one-tenth gram of crack cocaine.

Making memories: Officers responded to a theft June 5th in Germantown involving an employee at a scrapbook store. The store's manager discovered the suspect had used the company's computer system to show that customers had bought gift certificates when they hadn't. The scam covered up the $750.12 worth of paper goods and materials the suspect had bought.

No wonder "people kill people": Officers responded to an accidental injury on Thousand Oaks Boulevard. The victim advised that she had stepped on a rifle in the hotel room. n
