The Magic Kids

When: Wed., Feb. 3, 10 p.m. 2010
Sprawling young local band the Magic Kids were featured last week in our “20 Under 30” cover story, and if you haven’t seen them live yet, you have a chance this week. A mash-up of a few pre-existing local bands — members of the garage-rock Barbaras plus members of the schoolhouse-rock Scandaliz Vandalistz, with a Warble-r thrown in for good measure — the Magic Kids are an indie-rock pajama-party of a band, infusing their genial, ramshackle sound with heavy doses of surf rock, girl group, and other ’60s sounds. The result is one of the most interesting new bands to emerge on the local scene over the past few years. The Magic Kids are currently on tour with indie breakthrough act Girls, but they step out for a night to headline a hometown show. Catch the Magic Kids at the Hi-Tone Café Wednesday, February 3rd, with the Smith Westerns. Showtime is 10 p.m. Admission is $6. — Chris Herrington
