The Thermals, Shaky Hands, and Bulletproof Vests

When: Tue., May 19, 9 p.m. 2009
Four albums into their run, Portland punk trio the Thermals are constantly evolving. The lo-fi indie-rock racket of the band's early records was transformed into urgent, bold political punk on 2006's The Body, The Blood, The Machine, which threw corrupted Christianity into the crosshairs along with Republican politicians and endless war. With eight of 11 song titles including an "I" or"we," the bands new Now We Can See is more personal than political, and the sound has mellowed into hooky, crafty, surprisingly straightforward rock-and-roll. The Thermals play the Hi-Tone Cafe Tuesday, May 19th, with fellow Pacific Northwest band shaky hands and Memphians Bulletproof Vests opening. Doors open at 9 pm, admission is $10.
