Re: “John Aitken Gets His Buyout, Bids Emotional Farewell

-David Pickler, the longtime president of the old SCS board, called it “the saddest time” of his lengthy involvement with school matters and seemed to mean it- Give me a break......where are the rest of jobs that pay YOU for resigning? Oh, wait, since I work for Shelby County as well, should I ask which department is that Mr. Aitkens??? So to sum things up, you "ordered" the state to pay you AND you just so happen to have the opportunity of a possible (possible my ass) job doing the same with the munis. A little bureaucratic, you think? While you're all at it (or not at it), do you useless board members even remember who's interest the board was designed to protect?

Re: “Make Memphis

This is definately pleasure to my ears. I currently reside in the Downtown/North Memphis area (6th st, 7th st, etc..) This neighborhood, suprisingly and wierdly separated from Downtown Memphis by an extremely thin line, is without a doubt 'the hood'. I vowed to my husband that I would make this thing worth while. One of the first things that I did was call upon Memphis Services to have a crew come and clean up a vacant lot acroos from my house. I find that black ppl who live in poverty and crime stricken areas have absolutely no regard for nature. I hypothesized that this was mainly in part to the types of living conditions that they are exposed to. If my neighborhood looks like shit, and none of the ppl who have the power to change this are willing to care what it looks like, then why should I? This is the attitude of MANY blacks who live these areas. As I stated early, I took a vow. A vow to take baby steps in first, setting an example, and then to try encourage those who are capable and able-bodied to take more pride in our surroundings. Change is not far.

Re: “Fly on the Wall

Actually, through accute analization, I think the WWJD ride is innovative. At first glance it may seem obnoxious, but if one understands how the black church works, then you can see the angle. If rap is only way that the majority of our ppl will listen, then why the hell not???

Re: “When Sex Is a Pain

Interestingly enough, many women suffer not only from issues such as vulvodynia, but also re-occuring UTI, yeast, and bacterial infections. There could be a number of reasons that cause these issues to dominate and sustain such as alteration of foods, types of dye used in underwear, how we bathe, sex, etc. The obvious obsticle that continues to plauge this country is the 'backseat' attitude towards women.
It would be extrmely beneficial to have research and practice soley dedicated to ongoing vaginal discomfort that some of us women have come to accept in our lives. THERE MUST BE PROGRESS.

Re: “Gangsta Garments

First, let me say that off the top I congratulate GB for being allowed this that that's out the's hard enough to try and promote CHANGE within the black community as it is. I pondered on this the other day after reading an essay written by a white teacher analyzing the thought processes and behaviors of black youth present day. The results were repulsive, and yet, true :(. It seems as if the only few that the majority of our ppl listen to are either preachers or rappers. When our flock leaders and entertainers going to step up their morale game and put some gotdamn positive messages somewhere in the bs that been dished out to us since they brought us to this country??? How do we better the very ppl who bask in mediocrity, crime, self hate, cultural misunderstanding, frivolous promiscuity, and just damn hating each other???
