Re: “The Commercial App

You might feel differently if you used the new app for iPad. (This is one of the things that make an iPad worth it's cost!) It is much better than the old or the new iPhone app. It doesn't have the distracting advertisements ( and I wonder how they can make money without the ads, and my wife likes all of the advertising in the paper version, while I never look at them) and it has a method of opening each "section" of the paper and and working your way though all of the articles one at a time. I find myself reading more articles than I did in the print version. One nice thing is that you don't have to flip to a back page to finish an article, they are all in one place. They haven't got it totally correct yet, as I noted, missing content, missing punctuation in headlines, random "snap shot" photos with no captions, nice larger photos in the article, but often with no captions!, too easy to accidentally touch the article and be bounced back to the beginning of that section, but for me, the larger text, and other benifits I mentioned make it a more enjoyable experience. As I said, the could consult with me, and I could tell them how to make it really good!

Go to the Apple Store in Germantown and look at the newest iPad Commercial Appeal app (starts out with a blurry version of Beale Street. What's up with that?) and see what I mean. That coupled with DailyInk and for reading my beloved Comic strips make my iPad worth the price. Don't get me wrong we use the iPad for tons of other things (you won't know, until you really use it) but I love it for the improvement in reading my daily news!

Re: “The Help: Schools Have Lots of It These Days

I believe that the future will show that consultants were the downfall of the 21st Century United States. They blame the fall of the Roman Empire on lead pipe plumbing; consultants will destroy life as we know it! You only hire a consultant when you are afraid to make a decision yourself! Man up!

Re: “The Commercial App

I hate it when the comments switch from the subject of the article to push their personal agendas! Stay on target!

Re: “The Commercial App

Interesting article, but you didn't explain in detail, why you didn't like the app. (CA content is beside the point, the app has the same info as the paper, just not all of it). I prefer the mechanics of reading on my iPad (larger print, larger comics, no more super thin paper that wants to roll up when you hold it, and it is always dry, unlike the paper that my delivery guy throws in the wet grass every day!), but wish they would do a better job of including all the content in the paper version. That seems so fundamental to me... I would love to have a sit down meeting with who ever is in charge of the app, and explain a few fundamentals to them.

Re: “Willie Herenton: The Exit Interview

"I got all kinds of issues..."

You have that right. Mayor Herenton, you have serious issues. Mental, moral, ethical, and intelligence issues. Please resign from politics and spare us.
