Tommy Castro

When: Wed., May 5, 9 p.m. 2010
San Francisco Bay area hotshot Tommy Castro is one of the leading stars on the modern blues circuit, a fiery electric guitar player in the Elmore James mold and a soul-schooled singer inspired by the likes of Otis Redding. Castro won “Entertainer of the Year” at the Blues Music Awards in 2008 and is up for the big prize again this year, along with nominations for “Band of the Year,” “Contemporary Blues Album of the Year” (for his Alligator Records debut, Hard Believer), and “Contemporary Blues Male Artist of the Year.” Castro is coming to Memphis for the Blues Music Awards, which will be held Thursday at the Cook Convention Center. But the night before — Wednesday, May 5th —  he’ll set up at B.B. King’s Blues Club. Showtime is 9 p.m. Admission is $10. — Chris Herrington
