Re: “Statue Removal Process Sets Wrong Precedent

It's a little late to worry about what will be taken down in the future, now that someone has sidestepped the legal process and taken down statues that even the Memphis Flyer wanted taken down.
Remember that slippery slope that gun owners worry about? This is it.
What will YOU like that might be taken down by someone offende dby it in the future?

Re: “Making Memphis History

Just remember which political party was in power in Memphis at the time both statues were erected-The Democratic party.
Not to mention that they were the ones siccing dogs on people, blasting them with high pressure fire hoses, beating them with batons just for wanting to vote and be treated like any other American citizen.
It took the Republican Party to pass the Civil Rights Act which garnered not a single Democrat vote.

Re: “Into the Forrest

How about St Louis walling off the plaque for Michael Brown and charging admission to it and donating the proceeds to the Civil Rights Museum?
I bet they clear $10 in the first 20 years.

Re: “Working to Bring Confederate Statues Down.

And the statues have been in their location for over 108 years.Has the statue gone running up and down Union Avenue(Talk about rubbing noses into the loss) to kill people?

Re: “Working to Bring Confederate Statues Down.

LoveBC,that is correct. The bodies of the General and his wife cannot be moved without their family's permission.
In 2015,when the take it down movement began,I was at Nathan Bedford Forrest Park and had a short point-counterpoint discussion with Myron Lowery who kept saying that someone was offering to pay the costs of removal and transporting the statues and bodies of Nathan Bedford Forrest and his wife but would not give the name of someone so philanthropic as to do so.

Re: “Working to Bring Confederate Statues Down.

nobody, did you know that after the KKK which had been originally started as an association for Civil War veterans of BOTH sides ,had been suborned into the racist organization that we all know and loathe,Nathan Bedford Forrest resigned and was known as one of the early champions for Civil Rights for newly freed blacks?
I'm sure to be called a liar by people who won't go look it up to prove or disprove my claim.

Re: “Working to Bring Confederate Statues Down.

Only a liberal could hear a threat in someone wishing them well. Was the well wisher waving a weapon at her or was there evil menace in his voice?
I find it interesting that those of us wanting to preserve Confederate memorials aren't wanting to tear down black monuments for the sake of racial equality or to erase the pain of the past.
