Twilight soundtrack artist Bobby Long

When: Mon., Aug. 17, 8 p.m. 2009
Brit performer Bobby Long is probably best known in the States for a song he wrote that appeared on the Twilight movie soundtrack. (The ballad “Let Me Sign” was sung by the film’s star, Robert Pattinson.) But behind the big-screen hype, the acoustic guitar player can sing. The 22-year-old Long sounds like a cross between Bob Dylan and James Morrison. His scruffy alto voice has a mature sound that fits well with strong, emotionally charged lyrics from songs like “Cold, Cold Loving” and “Sad Woman Blues.” Long’s musical influences come from artists such as Dylan, Muddy Waters, and Ray Charles. He may be a newcomer to the scene, but he is quickly making fans across the nation. This summer, Long launched the 80-date “Dangerous Summer Tour,” which brings him to Memphis on Monday, August 17th, to play at Neil’s. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15. — Erica Walters
