What to Do? Get Outside This Weekend

Weekend forecast: Sunny, highs in the mid-90s. Chance of precipitation: slim to none. Sounds like the perfect weekend for dragging your lazy butt out of the house into the summer sun. Good thing there's plenty of outdoor fun around town this weekend.

The Stanford St. Jude Championship runs through Sunday night at TPC Southwind. As the name implies, this annual golf tournament benefits St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Enjoy the late spring/early summer flora with a peek into the personal gardens of six Harbor Town residents during the island's Secret Garden Tour. The tour begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning.

Speaking of gardens, don't miss the opening show in the annual "Live at the Garden" concert series at the Memphis Botanic Garden. Jewel will play the first show in a full season of hit makers of the 70s, 80s, and 90s. The show begins at 8 p.m. on Saturday, but gates open at 7 p.m.

Don a sweatband and some old clothes on Saturday morning while you volunteer your time at Shelby Farms Park. Participants in the Lucius Burch Jr. State Natural Area Trail Repair and Maintenance Day will be building steps and boardwalks along the trail and they'll also be re-routing some of the pathways. Volunteers must reserve a place, though, so call 731-512-1369 right away. Work begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning.

As Memphis gains more and more Hispanic residents, Latino culture is coming into the mainstream. Celebrate spring with traditional music, dance, and other activities during Latino Memphis' Fiesta de Primavera Latina (a.k.a. Latin Spring Festival). It's all going down at Audubon Park in East Memphis on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m.

And though it's not an exactly an outdoor event, you should step inside at 3545 Lamar, Suite 103 for the Humane Society's Yard Sale, which benefits the Memphis and Shelby County Humane Society. The sale runs Saturday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
