Words of Wisdom

When Marlo Thomas was 18 and just starting in show business, her show-business dad, Danny Thomas, told her, "Run your own race, baby." They were the right words at the right time.

When Marlo Thomas asked a hundred luminaries (including Paul Newman, Laura Bush, and Oprah Winfrey) for their own life-changing words to live by, Thomas collected them in the bestseller The Right Words at the Right Time (2002). The response to that book was such that she invited readers in a nationwide contest to send in their own stories, and they did. Thomas has published a hundred of them in The Right Words at the Right Time, Volume 2: Your Turn! (Atria Books), and she'll be signing at Davis-Kidd on Thursday, May 18th. A line ticket is required, but it's easy to get one: Just purchase the book. It's all for a good cause -- Marlo Thomas' cause: Proceeds benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Marlo Thomas booksigning, Davis-Kidd Booksellers (683-9801), Thursday, May 18th, 6 p.m.
