A couple Southern-themed booksignings today at Davis-Kidd. The first is by Melinda Thompson, who signs Swag: Southern Women Aging Gracefully, a collection of humorous essays that began as e-mails. Thompson covers such topics as swimsuit shopping, family reunions, and cemetery etiquette.
Robert Hicks signs Widow of the South, now in paperback. This historical novel follows Carrie McGavock, a woman whose home is taken by Confederate general Nathan Bedford Forrest to use as a field hospital during the Civil War.

This 5K run/walk raises funds for the Guardian Angel Pet Rescue organization, which will use the money to provide veterinary care for homeless animals.

Participants “get down” to raise money for the Le Bonheur Cardiac Kids Camp for children with heart conditions. The ball will feature local celebrity dancers and a silent auction.

4th Annual Memphis Gaymes

Presented by the Memphis Gay & Lesbian Community Center in recognition of October 11th’s National Coming Out Day, the Memphis Gaymes includes a parade and competitions in bowling, darts, basketball, softball, Scrabble, and more.
