Matteo Servente and Ryan Watt donโ€™t care if their business takes a licking. In fact, thatโ€™s what they want.

Servente and Watt are owners of Zio Matto Gelato, which recently held its grand opening celebration at 545 South Main Street, Number 110, inside Central Station.

โ€œGelato is the best Italian treat,โ€ Servente says. โ€œItโ€™s like ice cream, but better. Itโ€™s got less fat. Itโ€™s got less sugar. And itโ€™s creamier and packs more flavor.โ€

They offer 14 flavors at a time, but, he adds, โ€œWe have recipes for many, many more.โ€

Servente, who is from Turin, Italy, founded the business. โ€œMattoโ€ is what his niece called him when she was little. And โ€œZioโ€ is โ€œuncleโ€ in Italian.

โ€œWe love being on South Main because itโ€™s a neighborhood similar to Italy,โ€ says Watt, a filmmaker, adding, โ€œYou get the gelato and take it right outside and walk down the neighborhood.โ€

Also, he says, โ€œBeing near the [National] Civil Rights Museum and being here at Central Station, [thereโ€™s] a mixture of tourists and locals. Itโ€™s a perfect location.โ€
