Brian Sullivan, an assignment editor for Fox 13 News and a
sometime-actor in local theater productions, says he’s usually cast as
either A) a psychotic killer or B) Lenny in Of Mice and Men. So,
one could say that for his latest role as the blind, wheelchair-bound,
and pissed-off political activist Matt in It’s Murder, Mary,
Sullivan has been cast against type. Or not. Since this is a whodunit,
Matt could, in fact, be a psychotic killer.

In any event, Sullivan says it’s no use guessing. This comic play,
presented by the Emerald Theatre Company and opening this weekend, has
enough twists and turns to leave everyone gasping at its surprise
evening. Described as an over-the-top, innuendo-heavy “Gay Clue,”
It’s Murder, Mary is set at a lodge where eight gay men
representing eight gay stereotypes have met up. One of them gets killed
and fingers are pointed and then pointed some more.
The Emerald Theatre Company’s production is the first since the show
debuted in San Francisco last year, and Sullivan says that some of that
show’s cast and crew will be attending the opening weekend of Memphis’
It’s Murder, Mary.
So, if Sullivan can’t say whodunit, perhaps he can give us a hint on
whether he makes it through the evening alive? “Ah!” he says. “You’ll
have to see!”
