Re: “Letters to the Editor

Surely our forefathers could not have envisioned a system where free speech could be so pervasive as to allow anyone, anywhere in the world, to hear the opinion of someone else instantaneously. I say we should just stick to ink and quill on parchment, and deliver our opinions to each other via horseback delivery, just as was intended!

Re: “Letters to the Editor

Stuart, here's a pro-tip: let the intelligent gun rights supporters make the arguments.

Re: “Letters to the Editor

To say that those that oppose healthcare are racists is ignorant at best and malicious at worst. This argument is tired. Can we lay it to rest until evidence is provided?

Re: “Guns in Bars: Where's the Opposition?

I was incorrect about the 21 and up distinction. Here is pertinent text:

As used in this subdivision (c)(3), “restaurant” means any public place kept, used, maintained, advertised and held out to the public as a place where meals are served and where meals are actually and regularly served, such place being provided with adequate and sanitary kitchen and dining room equipment, having employed therein a sufficient number and kind of employees to prepare, cook and serve suitable food or its guests. At least one (1) meal per day shall be served at least five (5) days a week, with the exception of holidays, vacations and periods of redecorating, and the serving of such meals shall be the principal business conducted.

So, if a bar is a bar, one whose primary purpose is to serve alcohol, that establishment will be exempt. If it serves food as its primary business, it will have to post signs if it doesn't want people to carry.

Re: “Guns in Bars: Where's the Opposition?

Has anyone actually read this legislation? I seriously doubt it as most of you seem to think that permit holders will be able to carry into bars. This will still be illegal. The distinction is; if the store is a 21 and up establishment, weapons will still not be permitted.

What this means is that only restaurants with bars will be included, so the local news stations can stop harassing bar owners on Beale St., because they will be exempt, and blogs from the Flyer can stop freaking out.

Lastly, why must we assume that all gun owners are going to stay strapped and drink a beer? We permit drivers to go into bars with their car keys and hope they make the right decision to not drink and drive yet we still refuse to extend this same rationale to gun carriers. It makes no sense.

jdfrommefrico: thank you generic liberal #12383. You started to sound somewhat coherent until you drifted off into the whining about the richest 1%. Nice try though. Virgil Yancey: way to oversimplify the current financial crisis. Excellent job.

Re: “Letters to the Editor

The_Unicorn_of_Memphis. Lot's of misguided liberal rage here. Chill out, drink a soy-half-no-whip latte and tell yourself, "Obama will be the President" 3x to make yourself feel better. The sooner you nitwits realize your party causes and many problems as the other side, then we can actually solve problems instead of arguing over minutia. Until then, I will gladly prod you both, watching and enjoying the reactions that I expect due to the predictable nature of a Republicrat.
