"The sign says very clearly that all skaters must wear helmets. Doesn't that make not wearing one criminal trespass?"
There are right ways to handle things and wrong ways to handle things. Unfortunately, many agents-of-the-state do not know the difference. There seems to be a lack of what grandma calls 'common sense' among them. The cop could have just told the young man to step outside the skating area and then called the young man's father. Instead, the cop deliberately made a spectacle. I wonder if he moonlights on the UC-Davis campus.

Comparing children to rats?
To what could we compare Mr. Todd? A piece of shit, perhaps?
Mike -- Your version of the project's history is completely accurate.
Urbanut writes: "The plan was created and was to be implemented by the RDC, which was charged by the city to create a vibrant riverfront that connected the city to the river and activated its public spaces. They were charged with turning downtown around to address and embrace the river instead of isolating the riverfront via lightly used open fields, a high speed roadway, industrial uses and parking garages."
That's absolutely untrue. The RDC's original ridiculous plan was to create a land bridge and line the river with multi-story buildings that would have cut off the view of the river from Downtown. It would have essentially privatized a long portion of the river frontage. That's what I remember of the original plan.
A bit overdramatic about this, aren't we?
Does anybody remember the great Nike ad campaign from a few years ago with the kid saying "My head's with Tiger, but my heart's with Daly"? Best ad ever. And it completely summarizes how I feel every time Daly's in the game. I hope life gets better for him soon.
The sky is falling! The sky is falling!
I love how the liquor lobby keeps changing its arguments based on which way the wind is blowing. First it was 'but these untrained morons working in grocery stores are too stupid to check for IDs.' Now it's the economy, stupid.
Here's the deal: You folks have been given a market monopoly by the state. Now you're gettin' busted by a whole posse of Theodore Roosevelts. Good! Stop expecting government to foster your unfair monopoly. Your whining makes you sound like GM and AIG. Enough already.
