I'm a little behind, but I think this article truly fails to paint an accurate picture. I've lived in the Gardenview neighborhood for 10 years and this truly comes as a surprise that this area of Whitehaven would be listed as the "most dangerous." I think the article failed to account the population of the area. For example the 38116 zip code has one of the highest populations in the city. What was the population breakdown for this Whitehaven ward and the South Memphis ward used "for comparison"? (Which the writer correctly notes is technically in a downtown precinct)
Also, I would agree with the previous posters that states that the writer must have been in an apartment complex to see teenagers hanging out on every corner or being followed. When she states that she went to another "neighborhood", she must have also been referring to another apartment complex. Either way, its not unusual that teenagers hanging out would be on their cell phones. I think the writer's fears may have helped to paint an inaccurate picture. It is also of note that the residents interviewed were all involved in the community and clearly had a different view than what the writer portrays.
