Re: “Arkansas Girl Allowed to Wear Tuxedo in Yearbook Picture

I am also a gay senior student at this school and yes, they are extremely behind the times. I think the administration likes to talk themselves into believing that there aren't any LGBT students in their school. I have wanted to start a GSA twice and I had to back down, a concerned counselor who was afraid of violence from students who had never been exposed to LGBT issues and would use their religious beliefs as basis for bias and violence which I kind of understood. So for my safety I gave up the idea. I think there is going to be a problem later this year as well because at graduation all girls have to wear dresses under the robes, they make us line up and unzip our robes and they check us and if we aren't wearing one we cant walk. Marion High School needs to wake up and move into the future. Right now they are just stubbornly refusing to give in or admit their own bias.
