Louis Anderson, the word "People" in the 2nd Amendment refers to individuals just as it does in following Amendments.
Don't you think that if the framers had wanted to guarantee a collective Right, they would have differentiated between groups and individuals to avoid confusion and misinterpretation?
Mr Faust, you can eat all the soy based foods that you want.
I personally do not find them as tasty as real meat and vegetables so I will continue to be an omnivore as I hunt for a portion of my food, grow a portion of my food and should my garden fail or the hunting not be as good as it can be or a specific season be closed, then I will go to the grocery store with its artificial food chain where people actually believe that tasty meat comes from attractively wrapped packages and there are no animals killed to produce it.
Even vegetarians eat because an animal was killed to ensure that their organically gown crops would make it to market.USDA regs only forbid the use of chemicals to deter herbivores like deer, squirrels and rabbits, to name three, from eating crops. That leave the options to hunting and trapping to keep them from eating everything grown on the farm.
Consider that as you assure vegetarians that they only eat food that didn't require the death of an animal for their benefit.
Mr Drummond,so if the 10th Amendment had been settled once and for all,why is the government trying to infringe upon the Bill of Rights?
Don't you know that the "People" mentioned in the Second Amendment are one and the same as "the People" mentioned elsewhere in the Bill of Rights?
Since a lot of intelligent people wrote out the Bill of Rights and argued the semantics of what they had written long before either you or I were born, don't you think that if they wanted to guarantee a Right to groups of people instead of individuals, they would have specified in a clear manner which was for groups and which was for individuals to exercise at their own discretion?
I guess it doesn't matter to the Memphis Flyer that 4 Americans were killed in Benghazi after their requests for improved security was denied and that the reason was NOT a movie as originally claimed by the government but that the attack was preplanned and timed to coincide with the anniversary of the Sept 11,2001 attacks on this country.
How is trying to find out what happened and who is responsible for what action or inaction the wrong thing to do?If it is being too tough on Hillary Rodham Clinton, then she shouldn't have claimed to be tough enough for the Presidency.
Why not make gun ownership legal? If legalizing pot would reduce crime, maybe the same logic should apply to gun ownership, right?
The horrific shootings at Congresswoman Gifford's townhall meeting, the Aurora Colorado theater and Sandy Hook Elementary were all committed by people with a known history of mental problems, yet NO ONE did anything to ensure that they were getting help for their problem.
If these people were hoping that they would commit a horrible crime such as they did in order to have a reason to call for more gun control laws while doing nothing common sense like report their concerns to the police, then that makes them just as culpable for the murders as is the person who pulled the trigger.
Re: “Guns and Government”
Will someone in the hoplophobe crowd please show where in the 2nd Amendment it says the first word about keeping and bearing arms for hunting?
It's a final check on the government whioch might get out of control.
And while you're at it,direct whomever is conducting these polls on gun control because with 56% of Americans wanting gun control,I don't seem to know anyone in favor of stricter gun controls on top of the ones that already failed in Chicago Ill and Newtown Connecticut.
Finally, you may cheer if the President gets his way and bans all firearms ownership in this country.
Good.Just remember that this President would be seting an example of how to further erode the Rights of ALL Americans, not just the gun owners which you hate.
What are you going to do when the government REALLY starts trampling on the people?Use harsher language in your well crafted letter to the editor?
