Re: “Keeping a Balance

Credit Mr. Ryder with rolling out all of the myths about what the current Electoral College system does and doesn't do. In fact, the compromise in 1787 was not between large states and small, but rather, between slave states and the others. Today's small states are ignored if they are not battlegrounds, and only two of them are in November: Iowa and NH (coincidentally the first two primary contests). Every other small state, and most other medium and large states, are wholly ignored because they're safe for one party or the other. That leaves two-thirds of Americans without a meaningful vote in selecting the president. Under NPV, every vote -- everywhere -- will be equal and will count. Once it's approved, those who defended the current system will quickly see how reinvigorated our democracy is when everyone, everywhere can participate meaningfully in selecting the president.
