Keeping politics civil? Then why did Donelson stand in front of the Capitol in Nashville and call the citizens who opposed Sundquist's state income tax "horn honking know-nothings." It seems that those horn honkers knew more than Donelson, Sundquist, and many prominent leaders of the business establishment, given that the states closest to fiscal ruin now are the states that used an income tax to raise huge amounts of money to waste. Donelson never learned that an inefficient system of tax collection is the best way to control the growth of govrnment.
