4 Responses: 1) I agree with Tony that they should have a play aspect of the HSMTAs. Even though there is not a national competition for straight play acting, I think they should incorporate play categories, but would require the organization of more judges and whatnot. 2) Best Front of House Award is based on everything that happens pre-show (outside decorations, organization, ushers, pre-show music, etc.) 3) Tier I and Tier II are on relation to the budget it took to construct/rent the set/costumes. They split them last year to prevent schools with smaller budgets being compared to the schools with much higher budgets. 4) Germantown High School did not apply to participate this year. Congrats to all the nominees!
I have wanted someone to produce A Steady Rain since 2009! Thank you Theatre Memphis, Thank You!! I am also excited about Six Degrees of Separation, A Chorus Line, Sylvia, and Altar Boys! Overall, a fairly decent season.
I hope Circuit picks up shows like Time Stands Still, Red, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Clybourne Park, A Steady Rain, etc. Although, I do enjoy some big commercial musicals from time to time, I love the newer, edgier theatre much more. Here's to hoping the Circuit season is not as commercial as the Playhouse lineup.
