All this talk about taxes going up, blah blah blah is all crap...
1- memphis dumps its school system, should by default allow them to deduct that money from their budget correct? With that being said the citizens of memphis tax isn't going down so there should be no problem balancing a budget. But wait!! Not only is it not going down.... It's going up!!! Excellent management skills.
2- the people in the county tax rate is going up because we have been hostile taken over by memphis so whether we form a ssd ,muni, or stay with the unified we are getting taxed more either way.
3- you can create all the bs reasons and excuses why memphis did what they did and say it was about funding etc but if any of it were true, once it was surrendered and they were going to get county wide funding like scs did then they would have said if anyone wants to do anything else then more power to them, we are good. Instead they choose to fight to keep the county a part of their mess.
To me there is only one reason why, after forcing the merger they figured adding schools with better scores to the crap ones then it would help their average ( sure it brings the better scoring schools average down but who really cares because that doesn't have an effect in the class room of that school...) however! By bringing that average score up they can go in the media and say look!! We are doing better without actually having to do any better.
So let me see.....
A well run school system
A unified system which will have a board dominated by the very idiots who have a track record of failure making all the decisions
Both gonna raise my taxes thru the roof.....
Hmmm call it a ssd, muni, charter, or black sheep school district, I don't care..... I'll go with the first one.
I don't believe there is a student problem, and the teachers in the city are every bit as qualified as the county... The problem lies in administration...... So I can't wait for our new system here in bartlett.
( and a side foot note no one seems to talk about..... Memphis ran their school on somewhere around $8,000 per student each year..... The county had more computers, more technology, more teacher aides in the classroom, and does it for around $6,000 per child. Hmmmm)
