Unfortunately the marginalized have to be better than their unmarginalized counterparts in order to remain even. Ain't fair, but then that's the way the world has always been.

I understand your concern but please know that the same kind of arguments were made during the civil rights era. Yes, change is often difficult for those of us who are comfortable with the way things are, but usually when one group is comfortable, another isn't. I hope it doesn't take as many generations as grovereb84 predicts. I think the results of the elimination of DADT in the military speaks volumes to the fact that it really doesn't make all that much difference.
