And I forgot to rate the stars: at least four.
Oak Tree, Craig Fitzhugh is a gentleman's gentleman and about as distinguished and photo-worthy as a state legislator can be. His picture has appeared in this space many a time. This story is about the six Memphians (out of 12 available offices and 25 Democratic state reps) who were gifted with a party office in the legislature. That's the ONLY reason the great Craig Fitzhugh isn't pictured here. SHEESH!
No problem, Oak. I happily own up to the whole shmear: the "wondrous, rambling aggregation of precise insight, jaundiced musings, and outright factual inaccuracies." So long as you "love [the] style."
As someone who just wrote the text of our cover story, I cannot take credit for our brilliant, if controversial, headline and cover design. The editor and our very talented art folks deserve props for that. I must say, though, I think the critics are misreading those initials if all they see is scorn for the outcome.
First and foremost, those letters express honest bewilderment along with, yes, some exasperation. Nobody -- the Clintonites, the Trumpies, the national media, the pollsters -- saw this result coming. (For that matter, I think the initials might also express what Donald Trump himself might be thinking.) We're all trying to figure it out.
And that sentiment, that state of baffledom, is expressed in initials, for a reason. It's hard for me to imagine that the most outraged of our readers are actually going to the trouble of translating the letters for their toddlers. If so, then it's on them.
Everybody lighten up. And read the story, dang it, and help us puzzle this out.
Oak! Good as I been to you!
Go through. Sheesh!
Sorry about the repetition. Thought the first one didn't h through.
There is no one template when it comes to state laws on the subject, Bill. Rather a plethora of them. It depends on exactly what the language is in a given state. Basically, this is a case of trying to break a butterfly on the rack, as you seem to imply. Either that, or just a hoot.
