Last weekend, WREG News Channel 3 ran a story recommending several ways in which Mayor A C Wharton might raise taxes in order to pay off the county’s debt. As each option was considered, Channel 3 flashed an appropriate graphic on the screen. The final option, according to Channel 3, was to tax “cigarettes, beer, and whine.” This forces us to ask the potentially costly question: Why do they always have to tax the fun stuff? — Chris Davis
