Your humble music video corespondent is tired this Monday morning, because he spent all weekend at Gonerfest 22. The annual garage punk festival was bigger than ever this year. The main festivities moved to Wiseacre Brewing on Broad Ave., where an improved stage (thanks to an assist from Memphis Presents) hosted 31 acts from Thursday to Saturday.

I worked on the live stream, which has evolved from a grassroots DIY affair into a (mostly) well-oiled machine. The weather cooperated all weekend, and the thousand or so people who came from out of town got treated to Memphis at its most beautiful.

One of the highlights of Thursday night was Pylon Reenactment Society from Athens, Georgia, featuring Vanessa Briscoe Hay from the pioneering alt rockers Pylon.

After an incredible three days of music, the party moved to the Overton Park Shell. The work of video artist Graham Burks, who provided backdrops for the bands all weekend, shone particularly bright at the Shell as Los Angeles shoegazers Dummy mesmerized the crowd.

With another Gonerfest in the books, we can look to next year with Goner artist Bloodshot Bill.
