Today in “this is why we can’t have nice things” news:

The Memphis Grizzlies released an unfortunate update on their starting center, Zach Edey.

Per Grizzlies PR:

Zach Edey has been diagnosed with a stress reaction in his left ankle. He is expected to make a full recovery following a period of offloading and rehabilitation. Edey will be reevaluated in approximately four weeks, and further updates will be provided as appropriate.”

Edey’s absence is going to be a massive loss for the Grizzlies, whose performance has surged since his season debut on November 15th. Memphis’ record was 4-10 before November 15th and 7-4 since, with the Grizzlies winning seven of their last nine games.

Edey’s defensive prowess is a primary reason for the team’s recent success.

Two other players were also included in this report:

Javon Small, a rookie guard on a two-way contract who has been sidelined with a turf toe injury, is “progressing well in his rehabilitation” and is expected to return to play in 3-5 weeks.

And guard John Konchar is reported to have sustained a UCL tear in his left thumb during the December 7th game against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Konchar will undergo a procedure to repair the injury, and a timeline for his return will be provided afterwards. He is expected to make a full recovery.
