The Memphis subreddit jumped on a meme asking which Memphis neighborhoods were personified in the image above. u/heyradio’s response got the most upvotes: “Cooper-Young, Raleigh, Collierville.”

“Images of Terror”
Wine guru, writer, and all around bon vivant Fredric Koeppel elegantly and succinctly described on Facebook last week what so many feel when in the presence of the Memphis Safe Task Force.

“I was in a coffee shop yesterday afternoon with a few writer friends — The Memphis School! — when three ICE agents walked in.

“Apparently, one wanted a cup of coffee, innocent enough, but their mere presence, with their full load of black, shiny, ugly, dangerous equipment, and weapons, laid an atmosphere of foreboding and menace in the place. Conversation stopped.

“It’s not easy feeling comfortable around men whose reaction to you would be different if you were Hispanic or Somali or if they suspected you of somehow interfering with their business. Knowing what we know about their history over the past year or so.

“While these individuals may have been perfectly nice gentlemen in their regular lives, their uniforms, their attitudes, their knowledge that they instill fear in American citizens and non-citizens alike, make them images of terror. We were happy when they left.”
