Memphis on the internet.
Todd Snider
WEVL remembered Todd Snider this weekend in a Facebook post, following his abrupt death last week. Snider launched his music career in Memphis after moving here around 1989-1990.
His first album, Songs for the Daily Planet, was an homage to the university-area bar where he often played. Heโd often tell a story from the stage about finding a gig in the pages of the Memphis Flyer. An early song, โMoon Dawgโs Tavern,โ was about a bar in Frayser.

WEVL said Snider made his radio debut on the stationโs โMemphis Beatโ show and appeared regularly on many others. He said WEVL was family to him when he moved to Memphis and promised to never forget it. He didnโt.
โTodd made good on that promise in 2023 with a fundraiser that went down as one the stationโs most memorable concerts ever,โ WEVL said in the post.
Mempho Presents recalled working with Snider, who played Memphis often. The city was a regular stop during his solo acoustic tours, playing at Crosstown Arts and Minglewood Hall. He also played Mempho Music Festival in 2017 as the singer for supergroup, The Hardworking Americans.
