Big news! We are very excited to share that the Memphis Flyer, along with our sister publication, Memphis Magazine, is joining Noisy Creek, a media company that’s working to bolster independent, local publications. The Noisy Creek network also includes Seattle’s The Stranger, the Portland Mercury, the Chicago Reader, and the Anchorage Press, with more members onboarding soon. The EverOut interactive event guide is also part of the network.
The partnership with Noisy Creek will enable our publications to deliver more plentiful and robust content, while implementing a stronger business model that incorporates philanthropic support. The philanthropic support will come from Memphis-specific donations to the Fund for Alternative Journalism and will help expand our reporting without compromising our independence.
Our current local owners — Ward Archer Jr., Henry Turley, Gayle Rose, and Kate Gooch — will join the Noisy Creek ownership group.
What will this mean for you as a Memphis Flyer reader? In the short term, you can expect the same irreverent, fun, and soulful consideration of all things local that you look for in our pages each week and on our website daily. In the longer term, we can’t wait for you to experience upcoming enhanced event listings, a ticketing platform, reimagined live events, and more.
It’s no secret that the business of local media has become more and more difficult in recent years. At the Flyer, we feel very fortunate to have stayed in continuous publication for the past 37 years. Joining forces with Noisy Creek will add significantly to the Flyer’s presence in that we will be adding our own ticketing service and the most robust calendar of events in the Mid-South. The partnership also will help us stabilize and strengthen the business side of what we do, while reinforcing our commitment to fearless reporting — and to the culture of the best city on Earth.
