Memphians probably know Seth Moody from Turnstyles. That’s the frantic surf rock duo he fronts with drummer Graham Winchester, not Turnstile, the Baltimore hardcore band. But the prolific musician, who has played with more Memphis acts than I can name off the top of my head, has another, quite different duo.
“Wetrobot = electro duo” Moody says. The band had its genesis in Moody’s native North Carolina, where he and wife Coco met and started to cohabitate. The band “went into hibernation upon relocation to Memphis and now has woken up, after learning to use the sampler needed to perform these songs live,” he says. “Coco sings and works the sampler and synth while Seth plays synth and guitar. It’s mostly originals in the live set with a couple mutated covers thrown in.”
Wetrobot will be providing the entertainment at Shangri-La Records for their Black Friday event the day after Thanksgiving. Dancing to Wetrobot’s hyper-hypnotic beats will be a fun way to get moving and work off some of that stuffing. Here’s the music video, made in-house by the Moodys, for “All Here.”
