Brothers Jacob and Ben Church have been playing music together since they were kids. They have been supporting musicians for folks like Jeff Hulett and the Hand Me Downs, but recently they started playing their own original music in a band called The Church Brothers.
Unfortunately, many people thought a band called “The Church Brothers” were a gospel group. But their mixture of twangy country, college rock, and soul is not very gospel-y. So last year, Ben and Jacob decided to change the name. Now, along with along with Khari Wynn on bass and Jon Harrison on drums, they’re Twin Fiction. Their new album How To Be Young, which will be out later this week thanks to a grant from Music Export Memphis, was produced by Memphis expat and friend of Music Video Monday Stephen Chopek. You can celebrate the release with the band at The Dame this Friday, July 10 at The Dame.
Their latest video, “How To Be Young”, is directed by Memphis filmmaker and Like You Children’s Film Festival creator Noah Glenn. He celebrates the band’s origin as a garage rock in a literal garage, and intercuts video shot through the Church brothers history. It’s all pretty life affirming — which is Glenn’s speciality.
